The best place we have seen for a combination of all-inclusives and beautiful beaches is Dominican Republic.

History is a bit thin in the Caribbean. Old San Juan in Puerto Rico is among the most famous tourist attractions for the amount of history and old architecture to see. Most other islands have nice but fairly limited examples of colonial history. If your interest in history extends into Mayan culture, then you should check out the huge and amazing ruins at Chichén-Itzá, which is a day trip outside of Cancun.

Nature opportunities on land are better on the Caribbean side of Central America, such as Belize and Costa Rica. But islands such as Grenada, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Dominca and others have plenty of hiking, waterfall and sometimes volcano excursions.

I definitely suggest Barbados.

For a list of all-inclusive places, please see:

There's also Almond:

I would suggest Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary unfortunately it's now closed as of Dec. 15, '08. But there's Arbib Nature and Heritage Trail.

You can do catamarans, sightseeings, go to its capital (Bridgetown) for mostly duty-free shopping. And do a tour around the island such as Adventureland 4x4 Off-Road - .
