The second largest International airport in South Africa is the Cape Town International. It is the main travel gateway to tourism for Western Cape. Cape Town International transports nearly 7 million people at an average, every year.

If you are visiting Cape, then your first entry point will be the Cape Town International. Many airlines come and take off from the Airport daily, and it is generally the first place that the tourists get to see while visiting South Africa.

The first sightseeing spot which should come in everyl foreign tourists’ list is the majestic Table Mountain. This dazzling World Heritage spot has a cable car that carries you to the peak of this mountain, which is at 1036 m above MSL, to get travel pleasure from the wonderful view of sea and land. There is a Cableway Cocktail Bar famous for pleasant views of sun set and there is a restaurant too. If you love adventures you can also rope down Table Mountain.

Everyone should see the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens which aims to protect indigenous plants and has succeeded in growing an impressive 6000 different species.

The next thing to see would be another World Heritage site – the historically important symbol of anti-apartheid, Robben Island, named after “seals” in Dutch. Right at the entrance to Table Bay, this island is now a museum and can be reached by a 30-minute boat ride.

One stop on your itinerary has to be the busy V & A Waterfront. This is an entertaining bustle of craft markets, fascinating shops, theatres and places to eat and drink. The Two Oceans Aquarium and the Maritime Museum are located here as well.

Flower lovers must visit the Good Hope Nature Reserve, located at Cape Point. It is famous for its diversity of flowers. Cape Point also has a lighthouse, which is considered the country’s largest.

The tourists and locals just love visiting the beaches at Cape Town. At the Atlantic front, visitors can relax at the lounge on the powdery and striking beaches of Llandudno, Camps Bay, and Clifton.

Those who love shopping will find their haven in Cape Town as its markets are quite cheap. There are several interesting items that you can take as gifts for those back at home, or for your own house.

Those who love history must come to the Castle of Good Hope, which is the oldest building in the country, build between the years 1666 and 1679. This well maintained pentagonal castle stands as a testimony to South Africa’s martial history; after the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck’s. Ensure that you have a look at the dolphin pool, the dungeons, and blacksmith. If you manage to reach there by 10am during the weekdays, then you can see the Key Ceremony; while at 12pm you can see the Change of Guards. You might just see a ghost, if you are lucky or unlucky…

You must also take sometime out to visit the wine estates such as Franschoek, Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Constantia. These wine routes are the most famous in the world. Many of them are open for wine-tasting, and the wine-makers just love to ship the prized bottles to any part of the world. Cape Town cuisines are also superb. You can laze at the portico at Constantia Uitsig, taste wine at Franschoek, offered at Quartiere Francais; or enjoy the mouthwatering seafood platter at ‘On The Rocks’, located in Blouberg.

Tourists to Cape Town must take visit the Cape Point, where Bartholomew Dias, the Portuguese explorer is said to have stopped in the year 1488. It’s a breathtaking sight and it’s tough to think how the sailors crossed these hazardous waters years back. Some other places of interest are the the Kalk Bay Caves, the Dutch East India Company’s Gardens, and many more.

Passenger airlines rapidly grew across the globe after the end of the Second World War, and Italy was not an exception. The first commercial airline in Italy was established in September, 1946. It was named as Aerolinee Italiane Internazionali. This name was then shortened and commonly used as Alitalia Airlines. The word ‘Alitalia Airlines’ is formed by two Italian words, namely Ali (Wings) and Italia (Italy).

On the 5th of May, 1947, Alitalia Airlines commenced operation. The aircraft used for its first flight was a Fiat G-12 Alcione. In 1947, the airline transported nearly 10,000 passengers. Alitalia Airlines included four aircrafts, which they had bought from the Pan American fleet: Douglas DC-4s, by the end of 1949. In the year 1950, Alitalia Airlines, for the first time had stewardesses taking duty on board at these aircrafts. The merger of Alitalia Airlines and Linee Aeree Italiane in October 1957, led to the forming of Alitalia Airlines Linee Aeree Italiane.

Alitalia Airlines quickly became renowned as Italy’s national airline. In the year 1960, the Olympic Games was organized in Rome and Alitalia Airlines was became the official carrier for it. Alitalia Airlines took the first jets of its fleet: the DC-8 and the Caravelle in the same year. During the same year, they also achieved another very important landmark by transporting a million passengers. Alitalia Airlines achieved another landmark by owning only jet plans on their fleet by the year 1969, and it was the first airlines in Europe of that kind. This airline kept on growing despite all the challenges that it had to face over the following years.

Today Alitalia Airlines has 179 aircrafts to its name and is considered to be one of the most efficient airlines that Europe has on offer. The Alitalia Airlines airline fleet is also one of the youngest and most modern.

The Alitalia Airlines Group went through a process of reorganisation in May 2005 and launched their new website. In addition to online bookings, they also provide services like tele check in, self check in and web check in.

When you’re waiting at the gate, you might be wondering what will be available at your destination and what you should leave behind. Last minute packing is the worst; running around at the last minute to make sure you have everything you need.  Do you have your toothbrush and contacts? Batteries for your camera and chewing gum?  You make to check everything in your carry-on to make sure that you’re not carrying any restricted items. Packing is an especially important part of your travel. You don’t want to forget something essential. When you’re going through security, you need to follow procedures that may leave you digging through your purse or carry-on when you’re in a rush to catch a flight. The first tip about flight security is paying attention to the rules about carrying liquids through security. This not only includes beverages, but toothpaste, liquid deodorant, lotion, lip gloss, aerosols, and much more. Many people are used to packing these items in their carry-on bags without thinking about the restrictions. Restricted items that might be confiscated by the security officers may not be returned!

To avoid the embarrassment and frustration, keep airline policies in mind when packing.  You are allowed to carry on small clear zipper top bags of less than three ounces and absolutely no aerosols.  Pack all other liquids into the bag you intend to check.  To avoid this, it helps to learn their travel tips, which include packing larger bottles of liquids into the bag you’re checking. Also your shoes: you must remove your shoes at every flight security checkpoint, therefore it’s best not to wear shoes or boots that are difficult to remove.  Otherwise you will slow the line down.  Instead wear sneakers that are easy to remove.  If you must change your shoes after the checkpoint then pack the pair you intend to wear in your carry-on bag.  Security and your fellow officers will thank you.

Another key travel tip I can provide is to arrive no less than two hours before the departure time depending the time of the year. I suggest this because flights customarily board, 30-40 minutes before the flight. By arriving early you grant yourself an hour and a half to complete all check in requirements.

Relying on how your ticket was reserved, you may be required to print your ticket at a check-in station. These stations are now made up of kiosks, though the may be convenient, the require you to do most of the work. Because they require you to know what you are doing it is a good idea that you have your ticket record locator (normally a 13-digit number), your conformation number and driver’s license (or other sate id) readily available. After using either you conformations number or ticket record locator you may print your ticket, check your luggage, show id and begin the treacherous at of going through the checkpoints.

The security checkpoint isn’t as bad as it may seem. As previously stated, this is a fast moving process that that like any other procedure moves along smoothly if you know what you’re doing. One tip to ensure this process goes smoothly would be to have your id and boarding pass close by. This shouldn’t be a problem as you recently needed them to check in your luggage. The next step is to place your carry-on bag on the x-ray machine at the same time you pass through a metal detector. Prior to putting your items on the conveyer belt, you will have to take your shoes off, and remove zip-lock bag with three ounce liquids and any electronic devices larger than you hand and place them on the belt as well. After passing through the checkpoints and collecting your belongings, you’re done. Only thing to do now is get on the plane.
