If you’re planning a journey, one of the things you need to think about are your luggage requirements. Your mode of transport, how long you are intending to be away, and where you are staying are all factors to consider.
To a certain extent, your means of travel will determine the bags you bring. Depending on your mode of transport, you will have different space allocations for your bags. For instance, most airlines allow you to check one or two pieces of baggage and also let you carry one bag onto the plane. Buses and trains have similar restrictions. Be sure to check the luggage information for your transportation provider before you pack. If you are making your journey by car, your only restriction is the size of your vehicle.
How long you plan to be gone is another consideration with regard to the luggage you should bring. A carry all should be sufficient for a weekend away. It’s unlikely that you’ll need to pack the same amount of clothing as you would if you were going to be gone for a few weeks.
Where will you be staying when you get to your destination? You’ll have to keep your luggage somewhere, so be sure to give this some thought before you leave. Are there any facilities to launder some of your clothes where you are staying? If so, you won’t need as much clothing, and smaller bags should be sufficient.
If you feel that your accommodations don’t have adequate security, make sure your luggage locks. And be sure to properly identify your luggage. With a customized luggage tag, you should be able to find your bag quickly after it’s been unloaded. It also makes it less likely that someone will accidentally walk away with your bags.
Also, think about how frequently you plan on traveling before buying any new luggage. Maybe this is your first journey and you are not planning to go away again in the near future. If so, simply borrow a bag from a friend or family member.
However, if you are a globetrotter, you should buy the best luggage you can afford. Choose well made, durable pieces which will be able to withstand a lot of rough handling. Luggage is usually treated quite roughly during the process of loading and unloading. It can be very frustrating to have your luggage start falling apart while you’re in the midst of your travels.
