Greece is undoubtedly one of the most satisfying and complete holiday destinations in the world. There are not many European destinations that offer as much as Greece. From the ancient, illustrious culture and archiecture to the sun, sea and sand there is a reason that Greece holidays are so popular. With that being said it can be tough to make sure that you see all the sights and hear all the sounds that you want while you are visiting the capital city of Athens. To ensure you have the best trip possible we have broken down the top 5 things to do during Greece holidays in Athens.

1 Visit the Parthenon

Whether you are an archeology buff or not, this ancient Greek ruin is stunningly unique, and an essential sight to see. Civilization as it is known today owes quite a lot to the principles and establishments made by the ancient Greeks and thus you need to visit this astonishing masterpiece. When climbing the steps of these ruins, experience a sense of history, and if possible, make this your first top at Athens. And best of all, the price of admission will get you into a number of other sites for free.

2 National Archeological Museum

While this Athens attraction may seem a bit out of the way it is simply a must see when you visit Greece. Here you will find one of the best collections of ancient sculptures, paintings and statues that you will ever see. Taking time to look at the 2,000 year old computer gives a strong impression of far the Greeks were ahead of their time.

3 Agora-Athens Central Market

Love shopping? Then this is the place you have to be. Adore fresh produce? Better still. Show up early in the morning and you will find a better selection of meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables than you will find anywhere else. The prices are reasonable, and the smell and look of the produce should entice you to get a few bags of shopping.

4 Mount Lycabettus

Sure you might feel like climbing to the top of a mountain is a lot of unnecessary work, but I guarantee this is one view that is well worth it. Once on top, the stunning view provides an ideal photographing opportunity, and the quaint café and amphitheatre allows a place to relax and enjoy the views. Think the trip is over once you get to the top? Travelling back down is not as difficult as up, but still presents a challenge in the summer months.

5 The Plaka

The Plaka is by far the oldest neighborhood in all of Athens and a walk through this area can be a great experience. From the cute tourist shops to the constant entertainment around you, you will be sure to have a great time. There are more than enough experiences to be had in this area to make several top five lists of its own.
