Book A Break In Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a favourite holiday destination for many European holiday makers and is situated in the Atlantic Ocean not far from the African coastline. And was for many years thesesmall group of islands were touted by scholars to be the magical city of Atlantis that was lost in the past sands of time.  In more modern times though Lanzarote has become an exceptionally popular holiday destination welcoming millions of travellers each year .

Although all part of the same island group however differences between the islands are very noticeable, As each has its own separate character and culture.  A typical example of this is the governance of the islands with the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura being governed from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.  Whilst El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma are administered from the island of Tenerife.

Lanzarote can trace its early tourism back to Victorian times because it was close enough for the hardier and more wealthy travellers of the day .  But modern tourism only started to take off during the 1970´s.  As General Franco began to loosen his stranglehold on Spain As the area was in desperate need of a boost to its economy after years of restriction.

It’s amazing how the calming effect of time can change fortunes and today the island welcomes the millions of annual holidaymakers that arrive from all over the world and give the local economy a massive boost, what’s even more surprising is the number of Spanish visitor to the island too.  Many of whom seek to swap the oven like heat of the peninsula for the cooler and more temperate climes of the Canaries during August.

Holiday trends have changed in recent years and with an upsurge in internet usage coupled with excellent transportation links to the Island, independent travellers are on the increase.  The consequences of which are a massive increase in demand for holiday apartments and villas in Lanzarote. With self catering accommodation in the main resorts representing a high percentage of the amount of tourist beds now available here.

The most luxurious rental villas in Puerto del Carmen can be located in areas such as Risco Prieto.  Which sits right at the top of the Old Town, overlooking the picturesque harbour area which is currently under development into a luxury marina.

Whilst vistors preferring to look for villas in Playa Blanca should concentrate their search around the Montana Roja and Rubicon Marina areas.  As there is an excellent choice of well maintained and high quality accommodation here.

Not all Lanzarote’s visitors are lured here by the beaches however and rural tourism is increasing in popularity as visitors seek to experience the culture and natural out of resort lifestyle the island is so famous for.  Visitors that take time out to tour the island often comment just how much of its natural beauty has been maintained despite the amount of tourism.  Prompting many to return to experience the true Lanzarote in countryside fincas and rural accommodation.
